If you have already taken the first abortion drug and are now having second thoughts, you may be wondering what happens if you do not take the second drug. You may also be asking whether there is anything you can do to try to continue your pregnancy.
If you have changed your mind, you may still have a chance at continuing your pregnancy; however, it’s important to act quickly. Contact the Abortion Pill Reversal Hotline, which is available 24/7 at 1-877-558-0333.

How the Abortion Pill Works
The abortion pill process involves taking two drugs, mifepristone and misoprostol.
The first drug, mifepristone, works by blocking progesterone, a hormone needed for the pregnancy to continue. The second drug, misoprostol, is taken 24 to 48 hours afterward and causes the uterus to contract, leading to abdominal cramping and vaginal bleeding as the pregnancy is expelled.
If you have taken mifepristone but no longer want to take misoprostol, remember that this is your decision. You can contact the 24/7 Helpline promptly to discuss your situation, options, and next steps.
You May Have a Chance at Continuing Your Pregnancy
Abortion Pill Reversal (APR) uses progesterone to attempt to counteract the effects of mifepristone and allow the pregnancy to continue.
The highest success rate occurs when the protocol is started within 24 hours of taking mifepristone, although successful reversals have also occurred when treatment began within 72 hours or later.
One case series showed a 64% to 68% success rate in continuing pregnancies with APR. However, the outcome of an individual reversal attempt cannot be guaranteed.
Progesterone has been safely used in pregnancy for more than 50 years to support pregnancy and reduce the risk of miscarriage.
Your Other Options
If your pregnancy has continued, you can learn more about parenting and adoption and what each option could look like with the right support.
Parenting may feel overwhelming if you are concerned about finances, housing, childcare, education, or whether you are ready. Support and community resources are available to help, however.
Bella offers an Earn-While-You-Learn educational program where you can earn “Mommy Money” to purchase material items while learning essential information to raise your child in a healthy, happy environment.
We also offer referrals to community resources in the Northern Hills. We can provide referrals for financial assistance, employment, medical assistance, educational opportunities, housing, and more.
Adoption is another option if you want to continue your pregnancy but do not feel ready to parent. Adoption plans can vary according to the amount of contact you would like to have with your child.
Although we do not facilitate adoptions at Bella, we can discuss the different types of adoption and the steps you can take to make a personal adoption plan. We can also offer referrals to reputable adoption agencies.
