If you have taken the first abortion pill and are now wondering whether you still want to continue with the process, you may be feeling uncertain about what to do next.

The abortion pill process involves two drugs, mifepristone and misoprostol. If you have taken mifepristone and changed your mind, you may still have a chance at continuing your pregnancy through a process known as the abortion pill reversal.

The APR process is time-sensitive, which means you should get help immediately by contacting the 24/7 Abortion Pill Reversal Helpline at 1-877-558-0333 if you have changed your mind.

Bella is here for you throughout this challenging period of your life. We provide no-cost lab-quality pregnancy tests, limited obstetrical ultrasounds, and information about all your options.

Make an appointment today and keep reading to understand how the APR process works and what to do next.

How Does Abortion Pill Reversal Work?

Abortion Pill Reversal, commonly called APR, is a process that works by adding progesterone back into the body to counteract the effects of the first abortion pill, known as mifepristone.

Mifepristone works by blocking progesterone, a hormone that supports pregnancy. The second drug, called misoprostol, causes the body to expel the pregnancy through abdominal cramping and vaginal bleeding.

Progesterone has been part of pregnancy care for more than 50 years and has been used to help lower the risk of miscarriage.

There is no guarantee that progesterone will reverse the effects of the abortion drug. However, one study reported reversal rates of 64% to 68% and found no increased risk of birth defects.

Why Timing Matters

If you are considering abortion pill reversal (APR), contacting the Abortion Pill Reversal Hotline as soon as possible is important.

The process has the greatest chance of success when started within the first 24 hours after taking mifepristone. However, successful reversals have also been reported when treatment was started 72 hours or more after the first drug was taken.

If more than 72 hours have passed, don’t assume that you have missed your opportunity. Reach out to the APR provider to discuss your situation and available options as soon as you can.
